On behalf of The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust we are pleased to announce that Deb Ganderton has been appointed as our new CEO.

Deb has been acting as our interim CEO since Jacqui Weatherill departed to take on the CEO role at the City of Stonnington in July this year.

The appointment was announced today by Trust Chair, Geoff Mabbett.

“Deb’s strong leadership and community engagement skills and her deep understanding of the challenges facing the cemetery industry make her ideally suited to build on GMCT’s achievements and customer service performance” Geoff said.

“We interviewed candidates for the role from around Australia. There was a lot of interest in the position. We were pleased the outstanding candidate was a member of GMCT’s executive team and we were delighted to offer Deb the role.”

Deb joined our team as Director of Service and Engagement in 2017. Since then, she has been responsible for deepening GMCT’s connections with the diverse communities it serves, and driving a renewed customer focus across the organisation.

Prior to joining GMCT, Deb held executive management roles in local government for 14 years. She also has substantial executive experience in the private sector including consultancy roles in hospitality, tourism and communications. Early in her career, she ran her own hospitality and food services company in regional Victoria. This balance of private and public sector experience is of particular use to an organisation like GMCT which is a self-funding, not for profit organisation created by act of Parliament.

Deb is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the International Association of Public Participation, and the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). She is currently Vice President of the IABC in Victoria.

We hope you will join us in welcoming and congratulating Deb on her appointment as CEO.
