The Atrium of Holy Angels mausoleum at Fawkner Memorial Park has been shortlisted for the prestigious Victorian Architecture Awards.

The annual awards are conducted by the Australian Institute of Architects.

CEO of The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust, Jacqui Weatherill told The Australian newspaper that GMCT commissioned Harmer Architecture to design a building that would redefine “traditional assumptions surrounding cemeteries.” (The Australian, 19 June 2018)

“GMCT wanted to provide our client families with a beautiful and high quality environment – a building that was classic and enduring, yet bold and innovative,” Jacqui said.

The Victorian Architecture Awards will be held on June 29. The Atrium of Holy Angels mausoleum has been shortlisted in the public architecture category. Other shortlisted projects are:

  • Bendigo Hospital – Silver Thomas Hanley with Bates Smart
  • Bunjil Place – FJMT
  • North Fitzroy Library and Community Hub – Group GSA
