Your chance to learn rose pruning tips from the experts.

GMCT will be hosting a free up-close, hands-on demonstration by staff from our horticulture team.

It's an opportunity to have fun and learn something new!

GMCT looks after more than 20,000 individual rose bushes across its 19 cemeteries — nearly four times the number grown at the Victoria State Rose Garden at Werribee Park.

Helen Linehan, senior supervisor in horticulture excellence, has looked after the rose gardens at Fawkner Memorial Park for 22 years, including one variety so rare its location cannot be disclosed.

“Roses traditionally have a variety of meanings,” she said. “Red is for love, yellow is for friendship — it’s no wonder they’ve become such an enduring symbol of remembrance.”

Sessions will be held at Fawkner Memorial Park, Lilydale Memorial Park and Altona Memorial Park (same times/dates across all sites):

  • Tuesday 3 July 2018, 10-11am
  • Thursday 5 July 2018, 1-2pm

Please dress for the weather as the demonstration will be held outdoors.

We look forward to you joining us on the day.
