GMCT appoints new CEO

Deb Ganderton has been named the new CEO of The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust.

Her appointment was announced today by the Chair of GMCT, Geoff Mabbett.

“Deb’s strong leadership and community engagement skills and her deep understanding of the challenges facing the cemetery industry make her ideally suited to build on GMCT’s achievements and customer service performance” Mabbett said.

“We interviewed candidates for the role from around Australia. There was a lot of interest in the position. We were pleased that the outstanding candidate was a member of GMCT’s executive team and we were delighted to offer Deb the role.”

Ganderton joined GMCT as Director of Service and Engagement in 2017. Since then, she has been responsible for deepening GMCT’s connections with the diverse communities it serves.

Prior to joining GMCT, Ganderton held executive management roles in local government for 14 years. She also has substantial executive experience in the private sector including consultancy roles in hospitality, tourism and communications. Early in her career, she ran her own hospitality and food services company in regional Victoria.

Ganderton is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the International Association of Public Participation, and the International Association of Business Communicators. She is currently Vice President of the IABC in Victoria.

She has Master degrees in Arts (Professional Communication) and Science (Strategic Foresight).

GMCT is one of Australia’s major cemetery organisations. It operates 19 cemeteries and memorial parks and three crematoria in Melbourne’s north, east and west on behalf of the Victorian Government.
