A natural burial is a simple, natural and environmentally
sensitive form of burial.
The GMCT offers a uniquely Australian burial experience
which incorporates elements of sustainability, biodiversity and
longevity.
Items that are introduced into our natural burial
sites are made from natural resources and fully bio-degradable
to preserve the environment. Instead of tombstones, memorial
plaques are mounted on rocks that are sensitively placed amongst
native vegetation, minimising the disturbance of existing root
systems.
Natural burials are available at Lilydale Memorial Park and
Healesville Cemetery.
Lilydale Memorial Park's Djeernongs Walk
Djeernongs Walk located at Lilydale Memorial Park, is the
Aboriginal name meaning pathway or many footprints. Set amongst the
rolling hills, this site provides expansive views of the Yarra
Valley with scenes of early morning sunrise and afternoon
sunsets.
Healesville Cemetery's Tharangilkbek
Tharangilkbek is fittingly named after the Aboriginal term for
woody country in the sky or promenade for the blessed dead. This
area resides in the picturesque site of Healesville Cemetery and
boasts elegant views of Mount Riddell, Mount Monda and Mount St
Leonard.
