Overview
Bushland burial areas at Healesville Cemetery and Lilydale Memorial Park are preserved by our horticulture team in perpetuity, meaning the flora and fauna these natural habitats support will flourish for generations to come. These areas have special requirements for interment in order to ensure the benefits of a natural burial are fully realised. These include:
use of a coffin or casket made from natural materials such as bamboo or wicker, or
use of a simple burial shroud instead of a coffin or casket
no use of chemicals such as those associated with embalming
graves in natural burial areas are for one interment only
individual graves are not marked with a headstone or plaque
