1 July update, re-introduction of stage 3 restrictions to specific postcodes The Department of Health and Human Services has advised that from 2 July 2020, funerals held in a restricted postcode will be limited to 10 people plus those required to conduct the funeral.
This affects Fawkner Memorial Park and Northern Memorial Park.
Please note that if your bookings have been affected, we will be reaching out to your funeral director, and will provide options wherever possible. Alternatively, please call us on 1300 022 298.
While you can travel to a funeral outside a hotspot, we do encourage you to stay at home if you live in a restricted postcode.
During this time, reception areas at Fawkner and Northern Memorial Parks will remain closed to the general public and limited to appointments only.
General visitors to Fawkner and Northern Memorial Parks are limited to groups of two people or members of your immediate household. Remember to practise social distancing and good hygiene to help us slow the spread of coronavirus.
We’re confident that together we can contain the spread. We’ve done it before, we can do it again!
22 June update
Thank you to each and every cemetery visitor and community member for playing your part in flattening the curve and slowing the spread of coronavirus.
We know it’s been difficult, but with your assistance we are pleased to confirm the following restrictions have been relaxed.
Both indoor and outdoor funerals will have a maximum capacity of 50 mourners (excluding funeral director/essential staff).
However, all services must comply with the one per four square metres rule.
For the temporary capacities of GMCT's venues and function spaces under these restrictions, please click on this link.
For more information about the new rules for funerals, please refer to: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/religion-and-ceremony-restrictions-covid-19
Outdoor social gatherings other than funerals must not exceed twenty people, and social distancing must be observed.
The Fawkner Memorial Park Tea Rooms will reopen for dine-in service with a venue limit of 20 patrons.
All reception areas remain closed. Only those with pre-arranged, essential appointments (such as collecting the cremated remains of a loved one) will be admitted.
All planning ahead and plaque arrangements will be handled by phone and email.
If you need to purchase a grave for a funeral you're arranging now, we’ll help you over the phone and by email unless it’s necessary to make a personal appointment.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the cemeteries and memorial parks you hold dear, and encourage you to keep practising social distancing and good hygiene at all times. With more people out and about, this is more important than ever.
We will continue to update you regularly. Please visit the Department of Health and Human Services website for further information.
