The ease of stage 3 restrictions

Thank you to all the funeral directors and business partners we work with for doing your bit to help flatten the curve and slow the spread of coronavirus.

We know it’s been difficult, but with your assistance we are pleased to confirm the following restrictions have been relaxed:

  • Funerals may now be attended by a maximum of 20 mourners for indoor services, and 30 mourners for outdoor services, not including the funeral director and essential staff.

  • Attendance numbers for both indoor and outdoor services cannot be combined.

Our teams will continue to practice social distancing and good hygiene. They will set up, hand over and stand back for the duration of the service. Please ensure your staff are equipped to perform the duties required for indoor and outdoor services, and continue your important role in adhering to the new restrictions.

New same-day recording service for funerals

GMCT has introduced a new same-day recording service for funerals.

We have partnered with OneRoom to provide this service for all funeral services held the Cordell, Crick and Joyce chapels at Fawkner Memorial Park, Chapel of Repose at Altona Memorial Park and the Federation Chapel at Lilydale Memorial Park.

This service is available now for all funeral services booked from 8 May, 2020.

When the recording is ready an email will be sent to the funeral director containing a link to review the recorded service and share it with the family. The link to the recorded service will be active on the same business day as the service (Monday to Friday).

Families can view, download and share the funeral service recording with family and friends who are unable to attend the service by forwarding the email link, which expires after 90 days. Funeral services recordings are available by request after the expiry date.

GMCT is working with OneRoom to install the functionality in the chapels at Fawkner Memorial Park, Lilydale Memorial Park and Altona Memorial Park for the services to be Live-Streamed.

Work is well underway with the required hardware ordered and awaiting delivery. We expect to be able to make a further announcement about when this service will be available shortly.

Non-funeral related cemetery visitations

Over the Easter long weekend there was some media coverage regarding cemetery visitation for reasons other than attending a funeral over the Easter long weekend, and we would like to provide further clarification for our customers.

The Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) is encouraging people to delay visiting a cemetery, and to stay at home to stop the spread of coronavirus.

We understand that these are difficult times for all. If customers insist on visiting a cemetery, they must ensure that no more than their immediate household or two people (including themselves) are gathered. Physical distance has to be maintained by staying at least 1.5 metres apart. It is essential they comply with these restrictions.

For further information on this matter, please visit the DHHS website.

Managing stage three restrictions relating to funerals

Following from the Victorian Government stage three restrictions limiting funerals to no more than 10 mourners plus any essential staff or Funeral Director/celebrant; GMCT confirms that we will report any breach of this number to the police. Please ensure that your customers are informed of this limit prior to the day of the service.
