Feedback sought: Proposed pricing at Northern Memorial Park

We are seeking feedback on the proposed pricing for new directional lawn graves at Northern Memorial Park

The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (GMCT) has constructed new directional lawn graves in the Coral Gum B area of Northern Memorial Park's River Red Gum Precinct.

Set in rows within lawn areas, these graves can be memorialised with a desktop-shaped base and a bronze plaque. The bronze plaque size will be 560mm x 300mm. Each directional lawn grave can accommodate two interments.

As per government guidelines about the setting of cemetery fees and charges, GMCT is seeking feedback on the proposed pricing for these new directional lawn graves.

How much will the Right of Interment (ROI) cost?

The proposed price for each right of interment for a directional lawn grave is $9,440.00. The base and bronze plaque are additional costs and not included in the price.

Cemetery fees are determined according to a cost-recovery model, which accounts for the cost of the grave or memorial and GMCT’s perpetual maintenance obligations.

The fees charged for the ROI at GMCT cemeteries help ensure we can maintain each of the cemeteries we are responsible for in perpetuity. The perpetual maintenance obligations of Class A cemetery trusts are outlined in the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2003 (Vic).

Fees outlined here will be approved by the Department of Health through a formal process. Details of the process can be found on the Vic Health website.
