Burial vaults

In some cultures, burial vaults are preferred to traditional earth burials, and this unique burial option allows families to establish an impressive stone monument to honour their loved ones.

Overview

A burial vault is a pre-cast concrete-lined grave. The sides and bottom of the grave are lined with concrete, and the vault is sealed with a concrete lid.

At the time of the burial, the lid is removed and the coffin or casket is lowered into the vault, which is then filled with sand rather than earth. Once a burial has taken place, a stonemason is commissioned to establish a grand stone monument.

Burial vaults have space for up to two interments.

In some areas, a standard monumental earth grave can be retro-fitted with a pre-cast concrete lining to create a burial vault.
