Established in 1866, the Yarra Glen Cemetery is a valuable connection to the history of the local area.
A monument has been erected within the grounds of the cemetery to honour the memory of the individuals buried in unnamed or unmarked graves dating from the late 1800s.
Located at the front entrance, the monument provides family members, descendants, and visitors a place where they can reflect and embrace the rich history of the Yarra Glen Cemetery.
Names of individuals buried in unnamed or unmarked graves
The early records, inherited by GMCT from the previous custodians of the Yarra Glen Cemetery, were inconclusive as to location of some individuals buried in the cemetery.
In December 2021, a public notice was placed in various print and digital publications to encourage individuals, families and historians to provide any additional information about those individuals who were interred on site in the late 1800s where grave locations were unknown.
This information, compiled in conjunction with previous cemetery trusts records, allowed us to acknowledge the individuals listed here.
Please contact us if you believe that you have records that indicate any additional names that could be added to this list.
Thank you for responding
The Trust would like to thank all the people who responded to the public notice. As a result of you coming forward, further information was identified, and our records were able to be updated accordingly.
